Whether you’ve just decided to have a new outdoor lighting system installed this year or it has been several years since you made the property-transforming investment, it is always a good idea to set up some type of maintenance schedule to ensure your lighting system continues to perform for many more years to come.

Depending on your fixture count, the style of fixtures used in your design and how intricate of a design your your lighting system required, we offer annual, bi-annual and quarterly maintenance services that you can sign up for so that you never need to remember to schedule a service, or you can always call us to schedule a once-off service if you prefer.

An outdoor lighting system maintenance visit consists of three parts: cleaning, testing and adjustments.

Cleaning: The fixtures that S&M Landscape Lighting uses are constructed with brass and copper and left with living finishes (or patinas). The benefits of using these types of fixtures include durability, durability and attractiveness. Natural finishes should be cleaned periodically to ensure an even patina, remove stains from salt, hard-water and acid rain as well as to maintain the beauty of the fixture itself.

The lenses of the fixtures (the glass shield for the lamp) can get muddied and clouded with hard-water stains and they make great insect homes, so it is important to clean them once a year. Doing this will ensure your fixtures maintain maximum light output and stay looking great year after year.

Testing: In order to ensure that all facets of your outdoor lighting system are working in tip-top shape, we need to test your system. We use various methods of testing the system both visually and by utilizing line voltage meters, which can detect even small variances in the line voltage your fixtures are receiving. This can identify line corrosion caused by cut or nicked lines as well as warranty items preventing each fixture from receiving optimal voltage.

Adjustments: Landscape lighting is the art of lighting living things and living things grow and change over time. Sometimes the correct placement of a fixture will change based on the growth of the specimen that is being lit, the plantings surrounding that specimen or the hardscape itself. Our technicians will ensure the fixtures are lighting their intended specimen trees and that anything obstructing that light beam is accounted for.
