Undercap lighting for hardscape projects
February 25, 2021
When we are designing and installing an outdoor lighting system for a hardscape area or structure, there are a few things we need to take into account. What is the purpose of the space, what is the purpose of the lighting and how can we best incorporate our lighting design elements into the structure seamlessly?
Undercap lighting is one of the most popular, effective and attractive ways of adding ambient light to a hardscape whether it be a seating wall, retaining wall, pergola, arbor, fire pit or any of the other myriad of hardscape structures with stone settings.
The principle is one that the wiring connections will be made and hidden within the structure itself, and the fixture can be affixed to the underside of the landscape cap-stone, assuming there is enough space.
The end result is a marriage between light and stone that creates the impression the two parts were always meant to be one.
Some examples of the effectiveness of this low-voltage lighting style can be seen in the images below.
